147 Snooker Centre Review - Snooker Hall in George Town, Penang

Last updated: 30 September 2026

147 Snooker Centre is a long-established snooker hall in Penang located at 488 Jalan Burma in George Town, within the Midlands Park Centre. Named after the maximum break in snooker, this venue has been part of the George Town snooker landscape for many years, with 76 visitors recorded on Foursquare indicating a steady stream of patrons over time. However, very little current information is available about this venue, and its operational status is unclear as of our last review.

147 Snooker Centre: Location on Jalan Burma

Jalan Burma is one of George Town's major arterial roads, running through a busy commercial and residential area. It is well-known to locals and easy to find, making any business on this road inherently accessible. Midlands Park Centre, where 147 Snooker Centre is located, sits in a stretch of Jalan Burma that is well-connected to other parts of George Town by both car and public transport.

The location is a genuine strength. Unlike venues tucked away in industrial estates or hard-to-find side streets, a Jalan Burma address means most George Town residents can get there quickly. For casual players who want a convenient drop-in option without a long journey, this matters. The area also has a good selection of nearby food and drink options, which is useful for players looking to grab a meal before or after a session.

What We Know

Information about 147 Snooker Centre is extremely limited. Based on available data, here is what we can piece together:

• Established venue: The Foursquare listing with 76 visitors confirms that the venue has been around long enough to accumulate a meaningful number of check-ins. This suggests it is not a brand-new operation but rather a hall with some history in the area.
• Drinks may be available: Some sources suggest the venue may serve drinks, though this is not confirmed. A basic drink service is common among Malaysian snooker halls.
• No phone or social media: We could not find a phone number, Facebook page, Instagram account, or any other contact channel for the venue. This makes it impossible to confirm details remotely.

The Uncertainty Factor

We want to be straightforward about this: we cannot confirm whether 147 Snooker Centre is still operating. The lack of any recent online activity -- no social media posts, no recent reviews, no updated listings -- raises questions. Additionally, a new snooker venue has reportedly opened nearby on Jalan Burma, which could indicate a change in the local snooker landscape.

Possible scenarios include:

• The venue is still operating normally but simply has no online presence (this is common in Malaysia).
• The venue has closed or relocated, and the new nearby venue may or may not be related.
• The venue has changed ownership or name but continues to operate at the same address.

Without a way to contact the venue directly, the only reliable way to find out is to visit the address in person or ask players at other Penang snooker halls for current information.

What We Do Not Know

• Current operating status: Whether the venue is still open for business.
• Tables: The number, brand, and condition of tables are unknown.
• Pricing: No rate information is available.
• Hours: Opening and closing times are not documented.
• Facilities: Air conditioning, cue storage, food service, and parking details are all unconfirmed.

Who Might Visit 147 Snooker Centre

If the venue is still operating, it would be best suited for George Town players looking for a convenient drop-in on Jalan Burma. The prime location means it is easy to reach from most parts of George Town, and it could serve as a useful neighbourhood option for players who do not want to travel far for a casual game.

However, given the uncertainty, we recommend that players looking for a guaranteed experience in George Town visit one of the venues with a confirmed active status. Whirlwinds Snooker & Cafe on Lorong Abu Siti is a well-documented option with 15 tables and clear operating hours. For players on the mainland, Champion 93 Snooker Centre in Bukit Mertajam and 99 Snooker House in Tasek Gelugor offer alternatives.
